Sidebars / Widgets

Sidebars

With "Viral News" theme you can easily create unlimited sidebars and assign them to unlimited pages. To start working with the sidebars, go to Appearance => Viral News => Sidebars in your admin panel.

Sidebar position

Choose the default sidebar position (left / right) for preset sidebars like Archives, categories and blog single post.

Add sidebar

Create a new sidebar which can be later assigned to any page. Check the Setting the pages section of the documentation for more information on how to assign sidebars to your pages.

Custom sidebars

Sidebars should be preset on some pages like Archives, categories and blog single posts. You can achieve that with the help of this block.

Sticky options

Sidebars can scroll with the content when you scroll up and/or down - given that the sidebar length is shorter than the whole content length. You can also control the top / bottom margin between widgets if this option is active.

Widgets

The theme comes with 8 custom made widgets to provide some additional functionality and make your workflow even more convenient.


Social Links

Display icons for the more popular social services/websites like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc...:

  • Title

    Actual widget Title, e.g. Recent works

  • Target Window

    Choose either open the social website url in the same or a new window.

  • Position

    Depending on whether the widget is displayed in Footer or in a sidebar it is applied different styling so make sure to choose accordingly.

  • Bitbucket, etc...

    There's a big list of popular social websites provided, just choose the ones that apply and fill in the URLs.

Blog Posts

Widget Lets you retrieve latest blog posts. The parameters are following:

  • Title

    Actual widget Title, e.g. Recent posts

  • Number of Posts

    Number of posts to display. Usually 1-5 makes sense.

  • Other options

    All options are self-explanatory so we won't cover them one by one here. The screenshot 29 summarizes all the available options.

Instagram widget

Retrieve and display any user's latest Instagram posts. The parameters are following:

  • Title

    Actual widget Title, e.g. Latest from Instagram

  • Username

    Any existing Instagram username.

  • Other options

    All options are self-explanatory so we won't cover them one by one here. The screenshot 30 summarizes all the available options.

News Ticker widget

Retrieve and display posts specified as "Breaking" within a scrolling news listing widget. The parameters are following:

  • Title

    Actual widget Title, e.g. Latest from Instagram

  • Number of posts to show

    You might want to display only a part of breaking posts. Just specify the limiting number in this field.

  • Post type

    In some cases you might wish to display featured posts instead of breaking ones. The widget provides such option within this field.

  • Sliding type

    Choose between horizontal and vertical scrolling

  • Sliding speed

    Set in milliseconds. The reasonable number would be within 5000-10000 range (5-10 seconds)

  • Widget background image URL

    In some cases you might want to highlight a specific widget. Just provide the chosen image url into this field.

Flickr Widget

Flickr widget lets you get and display images from any flickr account having only account id.
Following are the parameters of the widget:

  • Title

    Actual widget title, e.g. Flickr Photos or Latest from Flickr)

  • Flickr ID

    Id of the user account in Flickr. If you don't know what your flickr id use the below link which leads to a handy online tool http://www.idgettr.com/ which lets you trigger your flickr id.

  • Number of Photos

    Number of photos to display. Keep lower than 20. Getting 9, 12 or 16 photos is perhaps the best option.

Special categories Widget

Retrieve and display the categories specified as "special".
Following are the parameters of the widget:

  • Title

    Actual widget title, if set in header as in the demo - better leave blank

  • Style

    Choose between 2 pairs of horizontal and vertical styles available

  • Additional class

    Will come handy in case if you want to add your own styling to the widget by overriding it within the new class specified in this field.
